Ruth Crawford - FEI Dressage Rider and Trainer

Ruth began riding horses before she could walk. She spent many years at Renroc Farm in Ventner, Ont., where she showed in the hunter/jumper ring and also evented under the tutelage of coach Margret Wigger. In 2000, she moved to Maitland where she began working for FEI rider and trainer, Liz Steacie, to whom she attributes much of her success. It was while training with Liz that Ruth had the opportunity to show Maxwell, Liz's retired Grand Prix horse. The pair teamed up to compete in the FEI Junior division, and claimed a reserve position on the team her first year out. For nine years, Ruth trained and competed under Liz's watchful eye, achieving great success most notably with Sambuka, Ruth's partner of eight years. With time and patience, Ruth developed Sambuka from the lower levels up through the FEI Young Riders', Prix St. Georges/ Intermediaire I and, finally, the Grand Prix division.

In 2009, Ruth began working at Franklands Farm in Brockville, Ont., under the mentorship of Olympian Gina Smith where she again had the opportunity to compete some of the horses she was training.

At the end of 2010, Ruth took the years of knowledge she had accumulated and established her own training business at Meadowlands Farm in Addison, Ont.
